River Valley Area Community Gardens
Volunteer

We Need You!

Volunteers are the foundation for providing the wide variety of resources and services at the
River Valley Area Community Gardens.

All rental gardeners agree to serve for several hours every season, but we can always use more hands!
We have many areas of the garden that could use your help. Keep scrolling for examples of volunteer opportunities.
If you have an interest in volunteering your time or serving as member of our Board of Directors, please contact us via email at [email protected]

Vegetable Production & Donation

The RVACG reserves garden space every season to grow crops intended for distribution at the Spring Green Community Food Pantry. Extra produce is donated to The Meadows, Greenway Terrace, the River Valley School District or placed in the community kiosk at the front of the gardens.
The Food Pantry Committee is a dedicated group of gardeners that is always looking for help with planting, mulching, weeding and harvesting to support our community.

Fruit Production & Pollinator Support

The east end of the gardens is dedicated to ornamental flower beds & greenspace, which includes many native flowering species. This serves to support pollinators and the overall health of the environment. We also grow fruiting trees, perennials & shrubs to share with the community - apples, rhubarb, strawberries, raspberries and cherries.
The Fruit & Flower committee could use your help with mulching, weeding and transplanting.

Fundraising

Rental fees only supply half of the yearly operating budget for the gardens. The rest is provided by our fundraising events throughout the season. The Fundraising Committee hosts brat sales, share nights, an ice cream stand and a caramel apple sale yearly. Volunteers who prefer not to get dirty can collect money, prepare items to sell or help set-up. There is something for everyone.

Youth Gardening Assistance

RVACG is committed to findings ways to engage children in gardening and the outdoors.
The Busy Bees Garden Club and Junior Gardeners program is always in need of help with presentations, projects and mentoring.

Special Skills?

Volunteers with special skills are needed from time to time.  If you have a special skill and would like to volunteer your services when needed, please contact us.
